FACETS: A cognitive business intelligence system
2013
Information Systems
A cognitive decision support system called FACETS was developed and evaluated based on the situation retrieval (SR) model. The aim of FACETS is to provide decision makers cognitive decision support in ill-structured decision situations. The design and development of FACETS includes novel concepts, models, algorithms and system architecture, such as ontology and experience representation, situation awareness parsing, data warehouse query construction and guided situation presentation. The

Recommender system application developments: A survey
2015
Decision Support Systems
A recommender system aims to provide users with personalized online product or service recommendations to handle the increasing online information overload problem and improve customer relationship management. Various recommender system techniques have been proposed since the mid-1990s, and many sorts of recommender system software have been developed recently for a variety of applications. Researchers and managers recognize that recommender systems offer great opportunities and challenges for

... usiness, government, education, and other domains, with more recent successful developments of recommender systems for real-world applications becoming apparent. It is thus vital that a high quality, instructive review of current trends should be conducted, not only of the theoretical research results but more importantly of the practical developments in recommender systems. This paper therefore reviews up-to-date application developments of recommender systems, clusters their applications into eight main categories: e-government, e-business, e-commerce/e-shopping, e-library, e-learning, e-tourism, e-resource services and e-group activities, and summarizes the related recommendation techniques used in each category. It systematically examines the reported recommender systems through four dimensions: recommendation methods (such as CF), recommender systems software (such as BizSeeker), real-world application domains (such as e-business) and application platforms (such as mobile-based platforms). Some significant new topics are identified and listed as new directions. By providing a state-of-the-art knowledge, this survey will directly support researchers and practical professionals in their understanding of developments in recommender system applications.
Cross-domain Recommendation with Probabilistic Knowledge Transfer
[chapter]
2018
Lecture Notes in Computer Science
Recommender systems have drawn great attention from both academic and practical area. One challenging and common problem in many recommendation methods is data sparsity, due to the limited number of observed user interaction with the products/services. To alleviate the data sparsity problem, cross-domain recommendation methods are developed to share group-level knowledge in several domains so that recommendation in the domain with scarce data can benefit from domains with relatively abundant

... a. However, divergence exists in the data of similar domains so that the extracted group-level knowledge is not always suitable to be applied in the target domain, thus recommendation accuracy in the target domain is impaired. In this paper, we propose a cross-domain recommendation method with probabilistic knowledge transfer. The proposed method maintain two sets of group-level knowledge, profiling both domain-shared and domain-specific characteristics of the data. In this way users' mixed preferences can be profiled comprehensively thus improves the performance of the cross-domain recommender systems. Experiments are conducted on five real-world datasets in three categories: movies, books and music. The results for nine cross-domain recommendation tasks show that our proposed method has improved the accuracy compared with five benchmarks.

A hybrid recommendation approach for hierarchical items
2010
2010 IEEE International Conference on Intelligent Systems and Knowledge Engineering
Recommender systems aim to recommend items that are likely to be of interest to the user. In many business situations, complex items are described by hierarchical tree structures, which contain rich semantic information. To recommend hierarchical items accurately, the semantic information of the hierarchical tree structures must be considered comprehensively. In this study, a new hybrid recommendation approach for complex hierarchical tree structured items is proposed. In this approach, a

A fuzzy tree similarity based recommendation approach for telecom products
2013
2013 Joint IFSA World Congress and NAFIPS Annual Meeting (IFSA/NAFIPS)
Due to the huge product assortments and complex descriptions of telecom products, it is a great challenge for customers to select appropriate products. A fuzzy tree similarity based hybrid recommendation approach is proposed to solve this issue. In this study, fuzzy techniques are used to deal with the various uncertainties existing within the product and customer data. A fuzzy tree similarity measure is developed to evaluate the semantic similarity between tree structured products or user

... les. The similarity measures for items and users both integrate the collaborative filtering (CF) and semantic similarities. The final recommendation hybridizes item-based and user-based CF recommendation techniques. A telecom product recommendation case study is given to show the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

A Framework of Hybrid Recommender System for Personalized Clinical Prescription
2015
2015 10th International Conference on Intelligent Systems and Knowledge Engineering (ISKE)
General practitioners are faced with a great challenge of clinical prescription owing to the increase of new drugs and their complex functions to different diseases. A personalized recommender system can help practitioners discover mass of medical knowledge hidden in history medical records to deal with information overload problem in prescription. To support practitioner's decision making in prescription, this paper proposes a framework of a hybrid recommender system which integrates

... neural network and case-based reasoning. Three issues are considered in this system framework: (1) to define a patient's need by giving his/her symptom, (2) to mine features from free text in medical records and (3) to analyze temporal efficiency of drugs. The proposed recommender system is expected to help general practitioners to improve their efficiency and reduce risks of making errors in daily clinical consultation with patients.
A FUZZY SNS COMMUNITY CENTRALITY ANALYSIS METHOD AND A CASE STUDY ON REN REN NET IN CHINA
2014
Decision Making and Soft Computing
Social networking services (SNS) have had a rapid development. To explore the interpersonal node spatial distribution characteristics in SNS community, a fuzzy SNS community centrality analysis method is proposed, which combines graph-theory with related fuzzy approaches. A case study on two types of topic groups in Ren Ren Net is conducted. The study finds that centralization characteristics exist in the interpersonal node spatial distribution in SNS community and present significant

Evaluation of the thyroid characteristics of patients with growth hormone-secreting adenomas
2019
BMC Endocrine Disorders
Acromegaly is highly associated with thyroid disorders. However, the clinical characteristics of thyroid nodules in individuals with acromegaly who present with thyroid diseases have not been completely elucidated. Overall, 134 consecutive participants with growth hormone (GH)-secreting adenoma (n = 67) and non-functioning (NF) pituitary adenoma (n = 67) were recruited from the outpatient and inpatient patient department of The First Affiliated Hospital, Jinan University from August 2015 to

... st 2017. Thyroid ultrasonography was performed using an ultrasound system. The cytopathological results of fine-needle aspiration biopsy were analyzed by a pathologist according to the Bethesda system. Twenty-one patients with GH-secreting adenoma and thyroid disease underwent transsphenoidal pituitary adenoma resection and were followed up for 1 year. The prevalence of thyroid disease increased in the GH-secreting adenoma group compared with that in the NF pituitary adenoma group. The number of hypoechoic, isoechogenic, heterogeneous, and vascular thyroid nodules increased in patients with GH-secreting adenoma plus thyroid disease compared with that in patients with NF pituitary adenoma plus thyroid disease. Finally, we found significant decreases in the morphology of solid nodules and significant increases in the morphology of cystic nodules after surgery compared with those before surgery in the cured group. Moreover, the numbers of heterogeneous and vascular thyroid nodules decreased significantly after surgery compared with those before surgery in the cured group. However, the characteristics of the thyroid nodules did not change after surgery compared with those before surgery in the non-cured group. The numbers of hypoechoic, isoechoic, heterogeneous, and vascular thyroid nodules increased in patients with GH-secreting adenomas. In these patients, surgery resulted in significant changes from solid to cystic nodules and also reduced the numbers of heterogeneous and vascular thyroid nodules.
