Dual-stack Network Management Through One-time Authentication Mechanism

The exhaustion of IPv4 addresses has led to the rapid implementation of IPv6. However, the design of IPv6 is incompatible with that of its predecessor IPv4 and slows down the development of the IPv4-to-IPv6 migration. Several transitioning mechanisms have been proposed to attain the compatibility of IPv4 and IPv6 to bridge the gap between these two heterogeneous protocols. The two protocols would need to coexist continually before IPv6 completely takes over IPv4. However, the existing captive

Upgrading the authentication system has become an urgent problem to be addressed. This study presents dual-stack network management strategies using a novel one-time authentication mechanism for large and complex dual-stack network environments. The proposed authentication system resolves the inconvenience of separate IPv4 and IPv6 authentication and effectively improves the compatibility of the two protocols. Furthermore, authenticating both IPv4 and IPv6 increases the traceability of traffic logs when security attacks occur. The rapid development of IoT (Internet of Things) has further promoted the deployment and application of IPv6. The huge IP addresses requirements of the IoT sensors will also contribute to the popularity of IPv6. Therefore, the importance of IPv6 has become a trend. However, the design of IPv6 is incompatible with that of IPv4, which increases the difficulty in integration. more &raquo; ... ms to attain the compatibility of IPv4 and IPv6. The most common techniques are dual-stack, tunneling and translation. Before IPv6 completely takes over IPv4, these two heterogeneous protocols still need to coexist continually for a long period of time. However, we found that the existing captive portal authentication systems generally do not support IPv4/IPv6 dual-stack authentication, and furthermore lack of one-off dual-stack authentication solutions. Upgrading the authentication system has become an urgent problem to be addressed. This research presents a one-off authentication architecture for the coexisting IPv4 and IPv6 with the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) to gain user MAC address and IP address for identity authentication. It resolves the inconvenience that IPv4 and IPv6 need to be authenticated separately, and effectively improves the compatibility of the authentication system. Lastly, we successfully verify the feasibility and stability in a dormitory environment.

We present a promising technology for nonvolatile flexible electronic devices: A direct fabrication of epitaxial lead zirconium titanate (PZT) on flexible mica substrate via van der Waals epitaxy. These single-crystalline flexible ferroelectric PZT films not only retain their performance, reliability, and thermal stability comparable to those on rigid counterparts in tests of nonvolatile memory elements but also exhibit remarkable mechanical properties with robust operation in bent states

Quantum-dot-embedded silica nanotubes as nanoprobes for simple and sensitive DNA detection

We have developed a new technique using fluorescent silica nanotubes for simple and sensitive DNA detection. The quantum-dot-embedded silica nanotubes (QD-SNTs) were fabricated by a sol-gel reaction using anodic aluminum silica oxide (AAO) as a template. The fluorescent QD-SNTs of different colors were then immobilized with single-stranded DNA and used as nanoprobes for DNA detection. The optical and structural properties of QD-SNT nanoprobes were examined using photoluminescence spectroscopy,
more &raquo; ... onfocal microscopy and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The QD-SNT nanoprobes were applied to detect dye-labeled target DNA in a solution phase. The obvious color change of the QD-SNT nanoprobes was observed visually under a simple microscope after the successful detection with target DNA. The quantitative analyses indicated that ∼100 attomole of target DNA in one nanoprobe can generate a distinguishable and observable color change. The detection results also demonstrated that our assay exhibited high specificity, high selectivity and very low nonspecific adsorption. Our simple DNA assay based on QD-SNT nanoprobes is expected to be quite useful for the needs of fast DNA screening and detection applications.

CRISPR/Cas9-induced shank3b mutant zebrafish display autism-like behaviors

Human genetic and genomic studies have supported a strong causal role of SHANK3 deficiency in autism spectrum disorder (ASD). However, the molecular mechanism underlying SHANK3 deficiency resulting in ASD is not fully understood. Recently, the zebrafish has become an attractive organism to model ASD because of its high efficiency of genetic manipulation and robust behavioral phenotypes. more &raquo; ... hank3b. Previous studies have reported shank3 morphants in zebrafish using the morpholino method. Here, we report the generation and characterization of shank3b mutant zebrafish in larval and adult stages using the CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing technique. Methods: CRISPR/Cas9 was applied to generate a shank3b loss-of-function mutation (shank3b −/− ) in zebrafish. A series of morphological measurements, behavioral tests, and molecular analyses were performed to systematically characterize the behavioral and molecular changes in shank3b mutant zebrafish. Results: shank3b −/− zebrafish exhibited abnormal morphology in early development. They showed reduced locomotor activity both as larvae and adults, reduced social interaction and time spent near conspecifics, and significant repetitive swimming behaviors. Additionally, the levels of both postsynaptic homer1 and presynaptic synaptophysin were significantly reduced in the adult brain of shank3b-deficient zebrafish. Conclusions: We generated the first inheritable shank3b mutant zebrafish model using CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing approach. shank3b −/− zebrafish displayed robust autism-like behaviors and altered levels of the synaptic proteins homer1 and synaptophysin. The versatility of zebrafish as a model for studying neurodevelopment and conducting drug screening will likely have a significant contribution to future studies of human SHANK3 function and ASD.

The Pade Approximant Based Network for Variational Problems [article]

In solving the variational problem, the key is to efficiently find the target function that minimizes or maximizes the specified functional. In this paper, by using the Pade approximant, we suggest a methods for the variational problem. By comparing the method with those based on the radial basis function networks (RBF), the multilayer perception networks (MLP), and the Legendre polynomials, we show that the method searches the target function effectively and efficiently.

N3 Subclassification Incorporated into the Final Pathologic Staging of Gastric Cancer

The seventh edition of the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) TNM classification system for gastric cancer (GC) was established in 2009. We assessed the unmet medical needs of patients with the N3 classification of the seventh TNM staging system by comparing survival according to the extent of nodal involvement, with a particular focus on the cutoff points for the number of involved nodes in the N3 classification. We retrospectively reviewed 3178 patients with GC who were registered in
more &raquo; ... e GC database of the Department of General Surgery at the Chang Gung Memorial Hospital between 1994 and 2010. Among them, 884 patients undergoing curative intent resection had N3 lymph node involvement. The clinicopathological features and surgical outcomes were compared among all patients with GC and between the N3a and N3b groups. N3b might impose GC patients with poor clinical outcome. We proposed a modified staging system, based on AJCC seventh edition, accordingly. T1-3N3 might be not simply categorized into stage IIIA as seventh AJCC suggested. Taking N3a and N3b into consideration, T1-3N3 might be further categorized into stage IIIB and IIIC, respectively, as we proposed, based on survival analysis. In addition, T4bN3bM0 is as dismal as M1 disease. In our proposed staging system, good discriminations between different stages are still maintained. The N3 category should be subclassified as N3a or N3b due to the survival differences. Furthermore, T1-3N3aM0 could be categorized as stage IIIB, T1-3N3bM0 could be categorized as stage IIIC, T4aN3bM0 could be categorized as stage IIID, and T4bN3bM0 might be regarded as stage IV as we proposed. This study aims to develop a human-centric, intelligent lighting control system using adaptive LED lights in roadway lighting, integrated with an imaging luminance meter that uses an IoT sensor driver to detect the brightness of road surfaces. AI image data are collected for luminance and vehicle conditions analyses to adjust the output of the photometric curve. more &raquo; ... ds, for optimizing safety and for visual clarity for road users. Data are collected for establishing formulae to optimize road lighting. First, the research uses zonal flux analysis to design secondary optical components of LED roadway lighting. Based on the distribution of LED lights and the target photometric curve, the freeform surface calculation model and formula are established, and control points of each curved surface are calculated using an iterative method. The reflection coefficient of a roadway is used to design optical lenses that take into account the illuminance and luminance uniformity to produce photometric curves accordingly. This system monitors roadway luminance in real time, which simulates drivers' visual experiences and uses the ZigBee protocol to transmit control commands. This optimizes the output of light according to weather and produces quality roadway lighting, providing a safer driving environment.
