2009 Lecture Notes in Computer Science
Cloud computing platforms provide scalability and high availability properties for web applications but they sacrifice data consistency at the same time. However, many applications cannot afford any data inconsistency. We present a scalable transaction manager for cloud database services to execute ACID transactions of web applications, even in the presence of server failures. SkinTrack is a wearable system that enables continuous touch tracking on the skin. It consists of a ring, which emits a continuous high frequency AC signal, and a sensing wristband with multiple electrodes. Due to the phase delay inherent in a high-frequency AC signal propagating through the body, a phase difference can be observed between pairs of electrodes. SkinTrack measures these phase differences to compute a 2D finger touch coordinate. Our approach can segment touch events at 99%

This paper describes NiuTrans neural machine translation systems of the WMT 2021 news translation tasks. We made submissions to 9 language directions, including English↔{Chinese, Japanese, Russian, Icelandic} and English→Hausa tasks. Our primary systems are built on several effective variants of Transformer, e.g., Transformer-DLCL, ODE-Transformer. We also utilize back-translation, knowledge distillation, post-ensemble, and iterative fine-tuning techniques to enhance the model performance further.

Preparation and characterization of temperature-responsive and magnetic nanomicelles

2011 Journal of Materials Chemistry
One type of the temperature-responsive and magnetic nanomicelles was synthesized based on SPIONs (superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles) and the biocompatible polymer-Pluronic F127 or its copolymer with poly(DL-lactic acid) (F127-PLA) via a facile chemical conjugation method. The magnetic nanomicelles were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), a vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), dynamic light
more » ... attering measurements (DLS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The varying volume shrinkage of the magnetic nanomicelles was detected when increasing the temperature from 15 to 45 C. Doxorubicin hydrochloride (DOX$HCl) was selected as a model anticancer drug to investigate the drug loading and release behavior in the buffer solutions with different pH values and in an alternating magnetic field (MF). The Alamar blue assay was performed to evaluate the biocompatibility of the micelles and the antiproliferative effect of the drug-loaded micelles. The results displayed that the magnetic micelles were safe carriers and the DOX$HCl-loaded micelles were equally effective as the free drug for suppressing the growth of tumor cells. The blood compatibility studies showed few effects on coagulation and hemolysis. Therefore, the magnetic micelles possess many great potential applications in the field of nanomedicine.

CloudTPS: Scalable Transactions for Web Applications in the Cloud

2012 IEEE Transactions on Services Computing
NoSQL Cloud data services provide scalability and high availability properties for web applications but at the same time they sacrifice data consistency. However, many applications cannot afford any data inconsistency. CloudTPS is a scalable transaction manager to allow cloud database services to execute the ACID transactions of web applications, even in the presence of server failures and network partitions. We implement this approach on top of the two main families of scalable data layers:
