Confidence Guided Stereo 3D Object Detection with Split Depth Estimation
[article]

Accurate and reliable 3D object detection is vital to safe autonomous driving. Despite recent developments, the performance gap between stereo-based methods and LiDAR-based methods is still considerable. Accurate depth estimation is crucial to the performance of stereo-based 3D object detection methods, particularly for those pixels associated with objects in the foreground. Moreover, stereo-based methods suffer from high variance in the depth estimation accuracy, which is often not considered

... n the object detection pipeline. To tackle these two issues, we propose CG-Stereo, a confidence-guided stereo 3D object detection pipeline that uses separate decoders for foreground and background pixels during depth estimation, and leverages the confidence estimation from the depth estimation network as a soft attention mechanism in the 3D object detector. Our approach outperforms all state-of-the-art stereo-based 3D detectors on the KITTI benchmark.

Chronic and occult hepatitis B virus infections in the vaccinated Chinese population
2016
Annals of Blood
In China, the prevalence of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) carriers declined from 9.5% to 7.2% in general population aged 1-59 years between 1992 when universal infant vaccination program was implemented nationwide and 2006. Approximately 75% to 90% reduction in hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg)-positivity was achieved in children, the HBsAg prevalence being reduced to 3% or less than 1% in children aged 5-14 years or <5 years, respectively. However, the non-responders with anti-HBs <10 IU/L

... and those with anti-HBs declining below the 100 IU/L protective level remain susceptible to breakthrough or occult HBV infections (OBI). Approximately 3-4% of HBV DNA carriers among the vaccinated population aged between 18 and 25 years, are HBV infected either vertically or horizontally from mothers, family contacts or sexual partners with high HBV viral load. The immunoprophylaxis efficacy of hepatitis B vaccine produced from an HBV genotype A2 strain may not be fully protective from HBV infection of genotype non-A2 strains, for instance, against HBV genotype B and C strains. An HBV vaccine boost between age 15 and 17 years might prevent asymptomatic infections acquired through sexual activity or other routes. Boosting at age 18-24 might induce an anamnestic response providing >100 IU/L of sero-protective anti-HBs level in college students. The implementation of a systematic hepatitis B boosting vaccination program for non-and low-responder children and adolescents at age 15-17 is suggested in China. Such strategy might be cost-saving and a significant health benefit for the Chinese population.

Panoramic video is a sort of video recorded at the same point of view to record the full scene. With the development of video surveillance and the requirement for 3D converged video surveillance in smart cities, CPU and GPU are required to possess strong processing abilities to make panoramic video. The traditional panoramic products depend on post processing, which results in high power consumption, low stability and unsatisfying performance in real time. In order to solve these problems,we

... pose a real-time panoramic video stitching framework. The framework we propose mainly consists of three algorithms, LORB image feature extraction algorithm, feature point matching algorithm based on LSH and GPU parallel video stitching algorithm based on CUDA.The experiment results show that the algorithm mentioned can improve the performance in the stages of feature extraction of images stitching and matching, the running speed of which is 11 times than that of the traditional ORB algorithm and 639 times than that of the traditional SIFT algorithm. Based on analyzing the GPU resources occupancy rate of each resolution image stitching, we further propose a stream parallel strategy to maximize the utilization of GPU resources. Compared with the L-ORB algorithm, the efficiency of this strategy is improved by 1.6-2.5 times, and it can make full use of GPU resources. The performance of the system accomplished in the paper is 29.2 times than that of the former embedded one, while the power dissipation is reduced to 10W.
Supersensitive presynaptic dopamine D2 receptor inhibition of the striatopallidal projection in nigrostriatal dopamine-deficient mice

FM. Supersensitive presynaptic dopamine D2 receptor inhibition of the striatopallidal projection in nigrostriatal dopamine-deficient mice. The dopamine (DA) D2 receptor (D2R)-expressing medium spiny neurons (D2-MSNs) in the striatum project to and inhibit the GABAergic neurons in the globus pallidus (GP), forming an important link in the indirect pathway of the basal ganglia movement control circuit. These striatopallidal axon terminals express presynaptic D2Rs that inhibit GABA release and

... regulate basal ganglion function. Here we show that in transcription factor Pitx3 gene mutant mice with a severe DA loss in the dorsal striatum mimicking the DA denervation in Parkinson's disease (PD), the striatopallidal GABAergic synaptic transmission displayed a heightened sensitivity to presynaptic D2R-mediated inhibition with the dose-response curve shifted to the left, although the maximal inhibition was not changed. Functionally, low concentrations of DA were able to more efficaciously reduce the striatopallidal inhibition-induced pauses of GP neuron activity in DA-deficient Pitx3 mutant mice than in wild-type mice. These results demonstrate that presynaptic D2R inhibition of the striatopallidal synapse becomes supersensitized after DA loss. These supersensitive D2Rs may compensate for the lost DA in PD and also induce a strong disinhibition of GP neuron activity that may contribute to the motor-stimulating effects of dopaminergic treatments in PD. basal ganglia; dopamine receptor; globus pallidus; presynaptic inhibition; Parkinson's disease

Object-Centric Stereo Matching for 3D Object Detection
[article]
2020

pre-print
Safe autonomous driving requires reliable 3D object detection-determining the 6 DoF pose and dimensions of objects of interest. Using stereo cameras to solve this task is a cost-effective alternative to the widely used LiDAR sensor. The current state-of-the-art for stereo 3D object detection takes the existing PSMNet stereo matching network, with no modifications, and converts the estimated disparities into a 3D point cloud, and feeds this point cloud into a LiDAR-based 3D object detector. ... ssue with existing stereo matching networks is that they are designed for disparity estimation, not 3D object detection; the shape and accuracy of object point clouds are not the focus. Stereo matching networks commonly suffer from inaccurate depth estimates at object boundaries, which we define as streaking, because background and foreground points are jointly estimated. Existing networks also penalize disparity instead of the estimated position of object point clouds in their loss functions. We propose a novel 2D box association and object-centric stereo matching method that only estimates the disparities of the objects of interest to address these two issues. Our method achieves state-of-the-art results on the KITTI 3D and BEV benchmarks.
Cathodically Pretreated AuNPs–BDD Electrode for Detection of Hexavalent Chromium
2020
Micromachines
Hexavalent chromium (Cr (VI)) has strong oxidizing properties and can result in strong carcinogenic effects on human bodies. Therefore, it is necessary to detect hexavalent chromium sensitively and accurately. This article proposes the gold nanoparticles (AuNPs)–boron-doped diamond (BDD) electrode for the direct determination of chromium with a green and simple detection process by cathodic stripping voltammetry. Gold nanoparticles are used to enhance the detection performance toward Cr (VI).

... e effect of different pretreatment methods on electrode modification has been studied, and the detection parameters have been optimized. With the optimized conditions, the AuNPs–BDD electrode presents a good linear behavior in a Cr (VI) concentration range of 10 to 1000 μg/L. A low limit of detection of 1.19 μg/L is achieved. The detection process is simple and environmentally friendly. The sensor has been tested for the detection of Cr (VI) in a real water sample with satisfactory results, which indicates potential application of the AuNPs–BDD electrode for the sensitive and onsite detection of Cr (VI).
Numerical simulation on aerosol pool scrubbing

E3S Web of Conferences
In the event of severe accident for nuclear power plant (NPP), radioactive aerosols may be released into spent fuel pool (SFP) through filtered-containment-venting-system (FCVS), which are entrained by mixing gas from containment, in order to prevent the overpressure of containment. The efficiency of aerosol pool scrubbing determines the radioactive threats of spent fuel compartment induced by containment venting, and the probable amount of radioactive substance during atmospheric dispersion

... er on. Therefore, it is necessary to study the typical flow phenomena during the process of aerosol pool scrubbing in the SFP of PWR nuclear power plants, and figure out the important regularities and mechanisms, which can provide reference for evaluations of radioactive threats of spent fuel compartment and provide technical supports for new type of designs for SFP and venting system. In this paper, Fluent is used to establish two kinds of numerical models of SFP, including horizontal injection and vertically downward injection configurations, according to the geometrical dimensions of Qinshan 2 NPP's SFP. TiO2 is used as the substitute of radioactive substance and coupled numerical models of VOF and DPM are introduced for qualitative and quantitative studies on the effects of diameter of aerosol particle, injection velocity, initial water depth and injection direction. The decontamination factor (DF) is determined by quantifying the mass concentration of aerosol particles which escape and are traced from the SFP under different conditions, respectively. Based on the simulation results, it can be seen that with the increase of particle diameter, DF is going to decrease at first and then increase. There should be a negative correlation between injection velocity and DF. By contrast, there is a positive association between initial water depth and DF. Besides, DFs under vertically downward injection conditions are much lower than that under horizontal injection, due to the appearance of contra-vortex flow adjacent to the free water surface.
