A First Public Dataset from Brazilian Twitter and News on COVID-19 in Portuguese

Tiago de Melo, Carlos M.S. Figueiredo
2020 Data in Brief
In this data article, we provide a collection of 3,925,366 tweets and 18,413 online news around the online discussion about COVID-19 in Brazil. The data from Twitter were collected through Twitterscraper Python library and we considered a set of keywords in Portuguese regarding to COVID-19. In order to facilitate the identification of tweets that have hashtags, media and retweets for researchers or data enthusiasts, we created three specific datasets for each of these categories. The news on

These datasets can attract the attention from communities such as data science, social science, natural language processing, tourism, infodemiology, and public health.

A wireless sensor network (WSN) is energy constrained, and the extension of its lifetime is one of the most important issues in its design. Usually, a WSN collects a large amount of data from the environment. In contrast to the conventional remote sensing -based on satellites that collect large images, sound files, or specific scientific data -sensor networks tend to generate a large amount of sequential small and tupleoriented data from several nodes, which constitutes data streams. In this
more » ... k, we propose and evaluate two algorithms based on data stream, which use sampling and sketch techniques, to reduce data traffic in a WSN and, consequently, decrease the delay and energy consumption. Specifically, the sampling solution, provides a sample of only log n items to represent the original data of n elements. Despite of the reduction, the sampling solution keeps a good data quality. Simulation results reveal the efficiency of the proposed methods by extending the network lifetime and reducing the delay without loosing data representativeness. Such a technique can be very useful to design energy-efficient and time-constrained sensor networks if the application is not so dependent on the data precision or the network operates in an exception situation (e.g., there are few resources remaining or there is an urgent situation). 21st International Conference on Advanced Networking and Applications(AINA'07) 0-7695-2846-5/07 $20.00

On The Use Data Reduction Algorithms for Real-Time Wireless Sensor Networks

Andre L.L. de Aquino, Carlos M.S. Figueiredo, Eduardo F. Nakamura, Antonio A.F. Loureiro, Antonio Otavio Fernandes, Claudionor J.N. Coelho
2007 Proceedings of the IEEE Symposium on Computers and Communications
This work presents the design of real-time applications for wireless sensor networks (WSNs) by using an algorithm based on data stream to process the sensor data. The proposed algorithm is based on sampling techniques applied to data histograms created from original data streams acquired by sensor nodes. As a result, the algorithm provides a sample oflog n items to represent the original data stream of n elements. In this work, we show how to use the data reduction algorithm in real-time WSN design.

An updated synthesis of cyanobacteria and algae information is presented for Brazil aiming to refine the data gathered to date and evaluate the progress of the biodiversity knowledge about these organisms in the country since the publication of the Catálogo de Plantas e Fungos do Brasil. The results of 2015 showed an increase of 1,250 species (35.7%) when compared to 2010, reaching a total of 4,747 species. The most diverse classes in species number were the Bacillariophyceae, Conjugatophyceae,
more » ... Florideophyceae, Cyanophyceae, Dinophyceae and Euglenophyceae. Bacillariophyceae and Cyanophyceae had the highest increase in species number in the five-year interval. The Southeast and South regions were the most diverse, however, the Northeast, with the states of Piauí and Sergipe, and the Central-west region, with Mato Grosso, Goiás and Distrito Federal, also stood out in the national algal biodiversity scenario. Despite the shortage of taxonomists and limited infrastructure, the results showed a significant improvement in the knowledge regarding the diversity of cyanobacteria and algae in the country during the study period, starting to even out regional geographical differences caused by subsampling.
