A family of codes with variable locality and availability [article]

Cícero Carvalho, Victor G.L. Neumann
2021 arXiv   pre-print
In this work we present a class of locally recoverable codes, i.e. codes where an erasure at a position P of a codeword may be recovered from the knowledge of the entries in the positions of a recovery set R_P. The codes in the class that we define have availability, meaning that for each position P there are several distinct recovery sets. Also, the entry at position P may be recovered even in the presence of erasures in some of the positions of the recovery sets, and the number of supported erasures may vary among the various recovery sets.

On V-Weierstrass sets and gaps

Cícero Carvalho
2007 Journal of Algebra
Let X be a nonsingular projective curve of genus g 1 defined over a field F which is assumed to be the full field of constants of F(X), and let V be a linear system of divisors on X. We define the set G(V; P 1 , . . . , P n ) of V-Weierstrass gaps at the rational points P 1 , . . . , P n of X as being formed by the ntuples α = (α 1 , . . . , α n ) such that V(α) V(α − e j ) for some j ∈ {1, . . . , n} (here V(α) := {D ∈ V | D n i=1 α i P i } and e j = (δ ji ) 1 i n ∈ N n ). We call N n \ G(V; P

A family of codes with locality containing optimal codes [article]

Bruno Andrade, Cícero Carvalho, Victor G.L. Neumann, Antônio C.P. Veiga
2021 arXiv   pre-print
Locally recoverable codes were introduced by Gopalan et al. in 2012, and in the same year Prakash et al. introduced the concept of codes with locality, which are a type of locally recoverable codes. In this work we introduce a new family of codes with locality, which are subcodes of a certain family of evaluation codes. We determine the dimension of these codes, and also bounds for the minimum distance. We present the true values of the minimum distance in special cases, and also show that

On algebras admitting a complete set of near weights, evaluation codes and Goppa codes [article]

Cicero Carvalho, Ercilio Silva
2008 arXiv   pre-print
In 1998 Hoholdt, van Lint and Pellikaan introduced the concept of a "weight function" defined on a F_q-algebra and used it to construct linear codes, obtaining among them the algebraic-geometric (AG) codes supported on one point. Later it was proved by Matsumoto that all codes produced using a weight function are actually AG codes supported on one point. Recently, "near weight functions" (a generalization of weight functions), also defined on a F_q-algebra, were introduced to study codes
more » ... ed on two points. In this paper we show that an algebra admits a set of m near weight functions having a compatibility property, namely, the set is a "complete set", if and only if it is the ring of regular functions of an affine geometrically irreducible algebraic curve defined over F_q whose points at infinity have a total of m rational branches. Then the codes produced using the near weight functions are exactly the AG codes supported on m points. A formula for the minimum distance of these codes is presented with examples which show that in some situations it compares better than the usual Goppa bound.

Comparison of Endodontic Retreatment in Teeth Obturated With Resilon or Gutta-Percha: A Review of Literature

Ciro Soares, Conceição Maia, Fábio Vale, Cícero Gadê-Neto, Lilian Carvalho, Hanieri Oliveira, Rejane Carvalho
2015 Iranian endodontic journal
Retreatment of endodontically treated teeth is a challenge that requires complete removal of the previous filling material. Several techniques are indicated for this procedure. The present review tries to identify the most efficient method for extirpation of Resilon (RS) root fillings and to compare the speed and efficacy of RS and gutta-percha (GP) root filling removal. Three trained evaluators conducted a search through three major databases (PubMed, Cochrane Library and Lilacs) over the

Twelve articles were included in the final sample (three in vitro studies and nine randomized trials). The ProTaper (manual or rotatory) system in combination with chemical solvents is the most efficient method for removing Resilon root filling. Retreatment of Resilon is more rapid and associated with less remnants of debris.

Differential detection of transposable elements between Saccharum species

Marislane Carvalho Paz de Souza, Jéssica Naiana Silva, Cícero Almeida
2013 Genetics and Molecular Biology
Cultivars of sugarcane (Saccharum) are hybrids between species S. officinarum (x = 10, 2n = 8x = 80) and S. spontaneum (x = 8, 2n = 5 -16x = 40 -128). These accessions have 100 to 130 chromosomes, 80-85% of which are derived from S. officinarum, 10-15% from S. spontaneum, and 5-10% are possible recombinants between the two genomes. The aim of this study was to analyze the repetition of DNA sequences in S. officinarum and S. spontaneum. For this purpose, genomic DNA from S. officinarum was

Sixty-eight fragments, approximately 500 bp, were cloned, sequenced and had their identity analyzed in NCBI, and in the rice, maize, and sorghum genome databases using BLAST. Twelve clones containing partial transposable elements, one single-copy control, one DNA repetitive clone control and two genome controls were analyzed by DNA hybridization on membrane, using genomic probes from S. officinarum and S. spontaneum. The hybridization experiment revealed that six TEs had a similar repetitive DNA pattern in the genomes of S. officinarum and S. spontaneum, while six TEs were more abundant in the genome of S. officinarum. We concluded that the species S. officinarum and S. spontaneum have differential accumulation LTR retrotransposon families, suggesting distinct insertion or modification patterns.

On the distribution of ramification points in trigonal curves

Cícero F. Carvalho
1999 International Journal of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences
We study the distribution of the total and ordinary ramification points of a trigonal curve over the intersection of this curve with rational curves on a rational normal scroll. We show, among other results, that these intersections may contain all the ramification points of the trigonal curve.
