Social/interpersonal context plays an important role in shaping the meaning of an utterance. Social context is, strictly speaking, extralinguistic (Lakoff, 1972: 911). Lakoff argues that "one must be able to refer to assumptions about the social context of an utterance, as well as to other implicit assumptions made by the participants in a discourse" (907). ... e students' reading comprehension. Output required of this research as a scientific publication in journal that have ISSN. The design of this research is Classroom Action Research (CAR). From the result of pre-test, we found that students' reading comprehension is under average, the score of pre-test is 59.00. After the implementation of scanning technique in every cycle, the students' reading comprehension were getting better, it can be seen in average of post-test score cycle 1 was 68.5 and cycle 2 was 79.00. It can be concluded that scanning technique can improve students' reading comprehension.

This research attempts to examine the illocutionary acts used in airline slogans taken from online airlines advertisements and investigate the most dominant illocutionary acts used in the slogans. Based on the findings, the most dominant type of illocutionary acts used was assertives with 40 occurrences (70%). Claiming is an assertive illocutionary act that was used most frequently in the slogans. This is in line with the main aim of advertising, i.e., persuading people. No declarative illocutionary act was found in the slogans since it is hard to fill the mode of achievement of a declarative in online advertising which changes the hearer's status.

Melihat fenomena tersebut penulis mencoba untuk menawarkan sebuah konsep, implementasi dan perkembangan pendidikan Islam dalam bingkai manajemen strategik, dalam proses pembelajaran di sekolah formal maupun non formal dengan tujuan membentengi siswa diera globalisasi agar tetap berpegang pada nilai-nilai qur'an, hadist, ijma' dan qiyas. Inti dari sebuah konsep manajemen strategik dalam pendidikan Islam memang merupakan hal yang baru sehingga harapan besar pada tulisan ini dapat digunakan di dunia pendidikan Islam yang lebih luas serta lebih mengefektifkan pengalokasian sumber daya yang ada dalam rangka mencapai tujuan pendidikan nasional. Salah satu caranya adalah dengan menggunakan teknik analisis SWOT. Jadi mutu lulusan pendidikan Islam tidak dipandang sebelah mata, justru sangat besar peranannya di lingkungan masyarakat. pendidikan Islam sesungguhnya adalah solusi bagi penyakit yang menimpa manusia modern. Pendidikan Islam adalah pendidikan yang dibangun atas dasar fitrah manusia. This research aims to study the use of idioms in Animal Farm (1954) and their translation into Bahasa Indonesia. The idioms found in the original text are classified based on the classification of idioms by Adam Makkai (1972). It applies the framework for identity analysis proposed by Bucholtz and Hall (2005), especially principle (3) identities may be linguistically indexed through labels, implicatures, stances, styles, or linguistic structures and systems. The analysis of Yale MSA in-group e-mail communication (Yale MSA@gmail.com) and in out-group webpage communication (YaleMSA.org) during the 2008-2014 periods reveals that Yale MSA uses Arabic borrowings and expressions presupposing Muslim life to index's its Muslim identity. The intensive use of Arabic borrowings in the in-group communication heightens the Islamic atmosphere and strengthens solidarity among members, while the use of Arabic borrowings in combination with English equivalent in out-group communication mitigates prejudice from different faith groups. The choice of overt labels "Muslim" and "non Muslim" rather than "Moslem" and "nonbeliever" implies Yale MSA's freedom to speak its own voice, and advocate for equal respect among different faith groups in Yale campus and New Haven community. The confidence in speaking its own voice and asserting an equal stance demonstrates that Yale MSA is an empowered Muslim community.
