Separation Logic Modulo Theories [article]

2013 arXiv   pre-print
Logical reasoning about program data often requires dealing with heap structures as well as scalar data types. Recent advances in Satisfiability Modular Theory (SMT) already offer efficient procedures for dealing with scalars, yet they lack any support for dealing with heap structures. In this paper, we present an approach that integrates Separation Logic---a prominent logic for reasoning about list segments on the heap---and SMT. We follow a model-based approach that communicates aliasing

An experimental evaluation using the Z3 solver indicates that our approach can effectively put to work the advances in SMT for dealing with heap structures. This is the first decision procedure for the combination of separation logic with SMT theories.

Modeling Cloud Architectures as Interactive Systems [article]

Antonio Navarro Perez, Bernhard Rumpe
2014 arXiv   pre-print
The development and maintenance of cloud software is complicated by complex but crucial technological requirements that are tightly coupled with each other and with the softwares actual business functionality. Consequently, the complexity of design, implementation, deployment, and maintenance activities increases. We present an architecture description language that raises the level of technological abstraction by modeling cloud software as interactive systems. We show how its models correspond

The order Mucorales is a group of ancient fungi with limited tools for gene manipulation. The main consequence of this manipulation unwillingness is the limited knowledge about its biology compared to other fungal groups. However, the emerging of mucormycosis, a fungal infection caused by Mucorales, is attracting the medical spotlight in recent years because the treatments available are not efficient in reducing the high mortality associated with this disease. The result of this renewed
more » ... in Mucorales and mucormycosis is an extraordinarily productive effort to unveil their secrets during the last decade. In this review, we describe the most compelling advances related to the genetic study of virulence factors, pathways, and molecular mechanisms developed in these years. The use of a few genetic study models has allowed the characterization of virulence factors in Mucorales that were previously described in other pathogens, such as the uptake iron systems, the mechanisms of dimorphism, and azole resistances. More importantly, recent studies are identifying new genes and mechanisms controlling the pathogenic potential of Mucorales and their interactions with the host, offering new alternatives to develop specific strategies against mucormycosis.

Planning with Effectively Propositional Logic [chapter]

Juan Antonio Navarro-Pérez, Andrei Voronkov
2013 Lecture Notes in Computer Science
We present a fragment of predicate logic which allows the use of equality and quantification but whose models are limited to finite Herbrand interpretations. Formulae in this logic can be thought as syntactic sugar on top of the Bernays-Schönfinkel fragment and can, therefore, still be effectively grounded into a propositional representation. We motivate the study of this logic by showing that practical problems from the area of planning can be naturally and succinctly represented using the

Tumores intracraneales: hallazgos tomográficos más frecuentes

2015 Revista Electrónica Dr. Zoilo E. Marinello Vidaurreta

Clinical inertia has been defined as mistakes by the physician in starting or intensifying treatment when indicated. Inertia, therefore, can affect other stages in the healthcare process, like diagnosis. The diagnosis of dyslipidemia requires $2 high lipid values, but inappropriate behavior in the diagnosis of dyslipidemia has only previously been analyzed using just total cholesterol (TC). Objectives: To determine clinical inertia in the dyslipidemia diagnosis using both TC and high-density
more » ... oprotein cholesterol (HDL-c) and its associated factors. Design: Cross-sectional. Setting: All health center visits in the second half of 2010 in the Valencian Community (Spain). Results: TC inertia: 38.0% (95% CI: 37.2-38.9%); HDL-c inertia: 17.7% (95% CI: 17.0-18.4%); and combined inertia: 9.6% (95% CI: 9.1-10.2%). The profile associated with TC inertia was: female, no cardiovascular risk factors, no cardiovascular disease, middle or advanced age; for HDL-c inertia: female, cardiovascular risk factors and cardiovascular disease; and for combined inertia: female, hypertension and middle age. Limitations: Cross-sectional study, under-reporting, no analysis of some cardiovascular risk factors or other lipid parameters. Conclusions: A more proactive attitude should be adopted, focusing on the full diagnosis of dyslipidemia in clinical practice. Special emphasis should be placed on patients with low HDL-c levels and an increased cardiovascular risk.
