Various sources of biomass contribute significantly in energy production globally given a series of constraints in its primary production. A case study from a real production system is presented in order to demonstrate the model's functionalities and its sensitivity to parameters known to be somewhat imprecise. It was shown that the proposed model can provide operation cost predictions for complex cropping systems where labor and machinery are shared between the various operations which can be individually formulated for each individual crop. By so doing, the model can be used as a decision support system at the strategic level of management of agricultural production systems and specifically for the mid-term design process of systems in terms of labor/machinery and crop selection conforming to the criterion of profitability.

A web-based service was deployed to appropriately size bio-gas plant capacity and perform its economic viability and return on investment based on biomass availability. The tool is based on accepted biogas plant engineering design practice, incorporating the effects of incentives resulting from energy policies for member nations of the European Union participating in the Bioenergy Farm IEE and EU funded project. An adoption program was conducted to increase awareness on the availability of the service and ensure appropriate use and interpretation of its results. Since its deployment, the tool has been frequently used by consultants and farmers. The advisor was used to conduct over 3000 sizing and analysis of biogas production plants and completely fulfill all project targets.
The purpose of this work is to promote the sustainable production of renewable energy from the biogas obtained from agrifood waste in small-scale concepts for pursuing energy self-sufficiency. The tool built for this purpose is a client server application, highly customizable to follow the target needs. It allows to setup a complete business model and business plan providing template, defaults sentences, available example of business plan. The tool incorporate in a customizable template and related information to built-in high quality business plans, and provide kind of expert knowledge base for those who need a business plan or document to promote their idea or agrifood product for development. The tool was validated with success by a team of students that participate to Ecotrophelia Italy 2016. Training modules and guidelines are also available to facilitate the use of the tool. The tool can be used by students of High Education Institution, or workers and managers for training by also for business model and business plan implementation. The tool showed a great potential to develop of targeted, standard business models and business plans that could be transferable to other domains or tailored to a specific type of product or food innovation.
