Refining plant energy optimization

A refining plant in the Middle East began official production in 2020 to produce strategic products. After production stabilization, the plant operators decided to implement energy optimization. While the refining plant utilizes a large number of units, only four units were selected for optimization. In addition, two scenarios were studied for optimization. Scenario 1 involves stopping the use of the sour water stripper units (SWS) to save 18.85 ton/h of steam used for stripping. The SWSs strip
more » ... hydrogen sulfide (H 2 S) and ammonia from the sour water of the refinery units. Meanwhile, scenario 2 considered optimizing the steam used in the SWSs and amine regeneration units (ARUs). The ARUs regenerate rich amine using H 2 S from all the refining units to provide the lean amine required for gas sweetening. The overhead acid gas from the SWSs and ARUs feed the sulfur recovery unit (SRU) to prevent emissions from exceeding environmental regulations. The feed to steam ratio of the SWS reboilers was optimized from 0.17 to 0.16 kg steam/kg feed) and from 0.14 to 0.10 kg steam/kg feed for the ARU reboilers. Overall, scenario 2 saved 23.09 ton/h of stripped steam. After a feasibility analysis, scenario 2 was selected for implementation. Considering the average steam cost of 7.6$/ton, scenario 2 saved 1,537,206.38 $/year. In total, five different simulations were conducted in this study, four of which were performed using Aspen HYSYS V.11. Conversely, the other simulation, which simulated the entire SRU plant, used a special sulfur package. In addition, a combined heat and power model was used to evaluate the thermodynamic properties, material, and energy balance equations for the live steam balances. Ó 2021 THE AUTHORS. Lipid nanoparticles, including nanoemulsions (NEs) and nanostructured lipid carriers (NLCs) are colloidal carriers with a lipid matrix that is solid at body temperature. These colloidal carriers have attracted increasing interest for their use in therapeutic and cosmetic applications. The performance of lipid nanoparticle formulations is greatly influenced by their composition and structure. Lipid nanoparticles are generally composed of lipids, surfactants and co-surfactants. more » ... used in the production of lipid nanoparticles are usually solid at room temperature. Being well-tolerated in physiological conditions, lipid nanoparticles are typically biocompatible. Liquid lipids, or oils, are specifically used for production of NLCs. In most cases, lipid nanoparticles are produced as dispersions and surface-tailored with surfactants to improve dispersion stability. It was shown that NLCs reveal some advantages for drug therapy over conventional carriers, including increased solubility, the ability to enhance storage stability, improved permeability and bioavailability, reduced adverse effect, prolonged half-life, and tissue-targeted delivery.

Response of sugar beet varieties to plant geometrical distribution

Sugar beet is the most important sugar crop that can be grown commercially in a wide variety of temperate regions. The beet sugar industry in the tropical and subtropical regions, which are mostly developing countries is growing as an important component of sugar production. A field experiment was conducted at Delta Sugar Company Research Farm, El-Hamool, Kafr El-Sheikh, Egypt to evaluate the response of sugar beet varieties to inter-and intra-row distances. more » ... aled significant effects of inter-and intra-row distances on all studied traits, i.e., sucrose content (Pol%), Na%, K%, α-amino-N%, quality index (Qz)%, root yield (RY), recoverable sugar (RS)%, recoverable sugar yield (RSY), sugar loss (SL)% and sugar loss yield (SLY) either in one or both growing seasons except for the effect of inter-row planting distances on Na% and loss sugar yield in both growing seasons. The results revealed that increasing the inter-row planting distance from 50 to 60 cm led to a significant reduction in sucrose content, Na%, RY, RS% and RSY. However, increasing the inter-row planting distance from 50 to 60 cm is associated with a significant reduction in the Qz%, RS%, SL% and SLY. Increasing the intra-row planting distances from 10 to 15 cm led to a significant reduction in sucrose%, Na%, Qz% and RS%. Additionally, significant variations in all studied traits were observed among varieties. The interactions between the studies factors and varieties exhibited significant effects on all studied traits. Planting the variety Garrot at 15 and 50 cm intraand inter-row distances produced the highest Qz%, RY and RSY. The lowest SLY resulted from planting the sugar beet variety Husam at 10 and 60 cm intra-and inter-row planting distances. The results of the present study of great importance for a sustainable production of sugar beet in Egypt.

Percutaneous nephrolithotomy in the supine position: Safety and outcomes in a single-centre experience

Objectives: To assess the feasibility of performing percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) with the patient supine. Although PCNL with the patient prone is the standard technique for treating large (>2 cm) renal stones including staghorn stones, we evaluated the safety and efficacy of supine PCNL for managing large renal stones, with special attention to evaluating the complications. more » ... orn renal stones underwent cystoscopy with a ureteric catheter inserted, followed by puncture of the collecting system while they were supine. Tract dilatation to 30 F was followed by nephroscopy, stone disintegration using pneumatic lithotripsy, and retrieval using a stone forceps. All patients had a nephrostomy tube placed at the end of the procedure. The results were compared with those from recent large series of supine PCNL. Results: The median (range) operative duration was 130 (90-210) min, and the mean (SD) volume of irrigant was 22.2 (3.7) L. One puncture was used to enter the collecting system in 51 renal units (94%), while three units (6%) with a staghorn Abbreviations PCNL, percutaneous nephrolithotomy; PCN, percutaneous nephrostomy; BMI, body mass index stone needed two punctures. The stone clearance rate was 91%, and five patients had an auxiliary procedure. There were complications in 15 patients (28%). All patients were stone-free at a 3-month follow-up. Conclusion: Supine PCNL is technically feasible; it has several advantages to patients, urologists and anaesthesiologists. It gives stone-free rates and a low incidence of organ injury comparable to those in standard prone PCNL.

The ligand and its chelates are subjected to thermal analyses and the different activation thermodynamic parameters are calculated from their corresponding DTG curves to throw more light on the nature of changes accompanying the thermal decomposition process of these compounds. The biological activity of the synthesized ligand and its metal complexes also are screened against the desert locust Schistocerca gregaria (Forsk) (Orthoptera-Acrididae) and its adult longevities. Aim of the Study: To compare effect of asthma care by pharmacist intervention versus routine care on asthma control. Results: By the end of the study, intervention patients who received a written action plan significantly improved their ACQ results than routine care group who did not receive a plan (p < 0.0001). Inhalation technique and adherence to controller medication were significantly better in the intervention group. Conclusion: The present study results provide supportive evidence concerning pharmacists' favourable effects on asthma patient care and support pharmacists as valuable members of the health care team.

This paper presents the test results of a study on the bond behavior of simply supported beams under flexure, reinforced with FRP bars (BFRP and GFRP) compared to the reference beam with steel reinforcement. The tested beams were made of C 40 concrete and reinforced with bars with 10 mm diameter having and tensile strength evaluated from the tensile tests. The analysis of the beam deflection behavior has been presented. The results show the different character of the load-deflection relationship of FRP reinforced beams compared to traditionally steel reinforced beams.
