2013 Molecules
The ethno-medicinal approach to drug discovery represents one of the most important sources of new and safe therapeutic agents to the challenges confronting modern medicine and daily life. Many of the traditionally important medicinal plants contain active molecules or ones that serve as precursors to biosynthesised secondary metabolites to which the biological activity could be attributed. Marrubiin is one such compound and is a potential valuable compound which exists in high concentrations

Marrubiin's attributes include a low turnover, high stability and little catabolism, which are core characteristics required for therapeutic compounds and nutraceuticals of economic importance. In addition, marrubiin is considered a potential substrate for potent active compounds viz; marrubiinic acid, and marrubenol. The contribution of marrubiin to drug discovery thus needs to be put into prospective due to its ready availability, high potential applications and ease of modification. In this short review we highlight the most important chemical and pharmacological aspects reported on marrubiin since it was discovered.

Self-consciousness and Fragmentation as Major Themes in Modernism

Abdulrahman Sulieman Khaleel Mohammed Abdullah Hussein
2020 Zenodo
The search for a new manner to encounter a world that denied man's dissatisfaction, became the new task of modern man. This search created a sense of lack against man's hopes of existence of all its values. Of course, this of anxiety and uncertainty resonates in art and artists, such as poets, playwrights and so on. Consequently, the world became full of changes that sought to explore the proper means for presenting their effects and set man's position in his new world. However, these changes

Therefore, the chaos that was suffered from by the world was reflected by the abundance of "isms" such as Surrealism, Symbolism, Expressionism, Absurdism and Dadaism. All of such movements\schools had one common characteristic of their being anti-realists, or anti-rationalists. Hence, it can be said that all these movements rejected the old-fashioned conventions. This paper focuses on the themes of modernism that are used by the writers, playwrights, thinkers, as well as theorists. Such figures have employed the shared themes of modernism to reflect their ideas, thoughts and intensions through their writings regardless the respective genre that they have written for. Such themes are self-consciousness, social fragmentation.

Mitral valve prolapse (MVP) is the most common cardiac valvular abnormality in developed countries and it is associated with considerable morbidity and mortality. To study the clinical presentations, risk factors, and echocardiographic features of patients with MVP in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. A retrospective chart review study was conducted in King Abdulaziz teaching hospital in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, from 2007 to 2017. All patients with MVP who were admitted at the hospital during this time period

Ninety-seven patients were recruited to this study, with a mean age of 43.82±16.16 years. Females constituted 67%. The body mass index (BMI) was 24.9±6.3 kg/m2. Hypertension, diabetes, and dyslipidemia occurred in 19.6%, 5.2%, and 5.2% of patients, respectively. A single patient had Marfan syndrome. Chest pain, palpitations, and dyspnea were the presenting symptoms in 23.7%, 11.3%, and 9.3% of patients, respectively, with elderly individuals presenting disproportionally (93.3%) with palpitations. Fifty-five percent of patients had an anterior leaflet prolapse. The presence of posterior leaflet prolapse and severe mitral regurgitation (MR) was significantly associated with left atrial and left ventricular dilatation (P<0.05 and P<0.001, respectively). MVP is more prevalent in women and middle-aged individuals with normal BMIs in this population. The most common clinical presentations were chest pain, palpitations, and dyspnea, which did not differ significantly with age or gender. The anterior leaflet was the most commonly prolapsed in the studied patients and presented with mild MR. Posterior leaflet MVP, while of low prevalence, was associated with severe MR and poor left ventricular function.

Necessary conditions for optimality for stochastic evolution equations [article]

AbdulRahman Al-Hussein
2013 arXiv   pre-print
This paper is concerned with providing the maximum principle for a control problem governed by a stochastic evolution system on a separable Hilbert space. In particular, necessary conditions for optimality for this stochastic optimal control problem are derived by using the adjoint backward stochastic evolution equation. Moreover, all coefficients appearing in this system are allowed to depend on the control variable. We achieve our results through the semigroup approach.

Maxillary Odontogenic Keratocyst

Michael Walsh, Mansoor A Hussein, Marguerite Carter, Shawkat Abdulrahman
2022 Journal of Surgical Case Reports
The Odontogenic Keratocyst (OKC) is one of the most aggressive odontogenic cysts. OKCs of the maxilla are particularly rare with less than 1% of cases reported in the literature. A 29-year-old female patient presented with pain and loose upper molars. Imaging confirmed an ectopic tooth at the osteomeatal complex and a maxillary OKC. These were endoscopically surgically removed and two teeth were encountered at the maxillary antrum. Histopathology confirmed the diagnosis of OKC of the maxilla.

Sufficient conditions for optimality for stochastic evolution equations

AbdulRahman Al-Hussein
2013 Statistics and Probability Letters
Let us consider first a stochastic control problem associated with a stochastic evolution equation of the following type: { dX(t) = (AX(t) + b(X(t), ν(t)))dt + σ(X(t), ν(t))dW (t), t ∈ (0, T ], and a cost function, where ν(·) denotes a control process. This equation is driven by a possibly unbounded linear operator A that generates a C 0 -semigroup on a separable Hilbert space H and a cylindrical Wiener process W on H. We shall try in this talk to find sufficient conditions for optimality for

Secondly, we shall generalize these results to a controlled forward-backward stochastic evolution equation of the type: where Q is a symmetric nonnegative nuclear operator on H. We establish an Itô-Krylov formula for BSDEs. This consists on the validity of Itô's formula for functions having only a generalized second derivative in some L p -space. This formula allows us to prove the existence and/or uniqueness for some QBSDEs with mesurable generator and an only square integrable terminale data. This shows that neither the exponetional integrability of the terminale data nor the continuity of the generator are needed for the existence of solution for the QBSDEs. We also give some examples to show that the convexity of the generator is not necessary for the uniqueness of solutions.Application to the existenece of viscosity solution for quadratic PDEs is also given. This talk is based on joint work with Y. Ouknine and M. Eddahbi. We study the potential theory of a large class of infinite dimensional Lévy processes, including Brownian motion on abstract Wiener spaces. The key result is the construction of compact Lyapunov functions, i.e., excessive functions with compact level sets. Then many techniques from classical potential theory carry over to this infinite dimensional setting, a number of potential theoretic properties and principles can be proved, answering to open problems as, e.g., formulated by R. Carmona in 1980. We apply the technique of controlled convergence to solve the Dirichlet problem with general (not necessarily continuous) boundary data. The talk is based on joint works with Aurel Cornea and Michael Röckner. 6 We present the properties of three Green functions for: 1. general complex "clamped beam"

2016 Journal of Taibah University Medical Sciences
Objective: This study probed the physicians' awareness of guidelines concerning diabetes mellitus in primary care setting in Riyadh. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in 15 health-care centres and in two university hospitals from May to November 2015. A self-administered questionnaire based on the American Diabetes Association's standard of care was administered to 146 family physicians, and the data were collected for further analysis. Results: As many as 71.3% of respondents

There was a significant difference between physicians' opinion regarding blood glucose levels to confirm diagnosis in patients without symptoms (odds ratio ¼ 2.500; 95% confidence interval 1.191e5.248). In addition, there was significant variation between physicians holding different qualifications regarding the routine investigations (odds ratio ¼ 6.754; 95% confidence interval 1.425e32.025). Regarding diagnosis of microalbuminuria, there was significant difference between physicians who had 9 years of working experience and those who had !10 years (odds ratio ¼ 2.213; 95% confidence interval 1.046 e4.680) and also between different positions (residents and those with post qualification; registrars, senior registrars and consultants) (odds ratio ¼ 2.514; 95% confidence interval 1.185e5.333). Conclusions: This study demonstrated that family physicians were not fully aware of the latest guidelines about diabetes mellitus. This lack of knowledge may result in less adherence to the guidelines and might have a negative impact on quality of care.
