Abstract
In 2017, the city of Montreal commemorated its 375th anniversary. It is in this context that we offer an overview of the characteristics of commemoration and more specifically we take a closer look at those lived in Montreal since the beginning of the 20th century. Based on this brief analysis, the second half of the article presents a tool to address commemoration in the history classroom with primary and high school students in order for them to better grasp the mechanisms behind the practice of commemoration and to help them built a citizen's view of commemoration
