The latter on being refluxed in ethanolic potassium hydroxide yield 1-phenyl-4-(2-hydroxybenzoyl) pyrazoles (III)). The mechanism of this transformation and the mass spectral fragmentation of the pyrazoles (III) have been discussed.</strong>},
