Abstract
In this chapter, we analyzes in comparative perspective, the war on drugs in five countries of Latin America. We'll identify and compare similarities, differences and the level of success or failure of the strategies against drugs from Colombia and Peru with those advanced by Mexico, Guatemala and Paraguay. Then we measure the sociopolitical and economic impact of drug trafficking and organized crime in those countries, as well as their position in international forums in terms of the results on this scourge. Finally some recommendations are included to reduce this problem and its effects.
