Abstract
Recent innovations in wireless technology provides heavy traffic in the radio spectrum which in turn a scarcity in the radio spectrum has been created. This research paper provides a solution through an emerging technology called Cognitive Radio (CR). CR is available in network form known as Cognitive Radio Network (CRN). It is an intelligent wireless communication which has environmental awareness. The Heterogeneous nodes will tackle the issues of spectrum sensing challenges which are due to the variation of transmission power, spectrum allocation and sensing bandwidth of the channels. The CRN have two duties which are primary channel sensing and selecting an appropriate unused channel for better communication to the secondary users. Here, we present an idea to formulate a contention based channel selection algorithm using priority queue scheduling algorithm. In this secondary users play the role of channel selection. The highlight of this algorithm is that it avoids collision during data transmission between heterogeneous nodes and it also improves the entire network throughput. Using NS-2 simulation, we can say that this algorithm provides 26% more efficient than other algorithm.
