Department of Chemistry, Saurashtra University, Rajkot-360 005 <em>Manuscript received 19 May 1986, revised 16 September 1987, accepted 3 November 1987</em> Synthesis of two bispbenols having a 'cardo' group was carried out from phenol and <em>o</em>-cresol using cyclohexanone and a mixture of hydrochloric acid and acetic acid in the ratio 2. 1 (v/v) at different temperatures to optimise the condition. The products have been characterised by ir, <sup>1</sup>H nmr and <sup>12</sup>C nmr spectra.
